Night to Shine is a worldwide initiative of the Tim Tebow Foundation, according to its website. Local churches can sign up to host this event the Friday before Valentine’s Day. Lakeview Baptist Church in Hartsville had hosted this year’s event Feb. 13, and it will again host it Feb. 12, 2027.

Student group Fun Without Drugs organized the race. The group promotes “balanced lifestyles and emotional well-being,” the statement said.

Hartsville-based Sonoco Products Co., Florence-based Swilley Law Firm LLC and Blue Cross Blue Shield sponsored the race.

Faith Tyner, a licensed professional counselor at the Governor’s School said in an email that “100% of the registration fees [as well as] online donations collected are donated to Night to Shine.”

Tyner has overseen the race since 2022. She said the race had gone on hiatus 2020-2021 because of the coronavirus.

Last year, 136 people had registered for the 5K, according to an April statement from the school. Fun Without Drugs had donated $3,220 to Night to Shine in 2025.

The race started and finished at the Governor’s School campus. The course wound around Coker University’s campus and the surrounding neighborhood.

Among the winners in the male category were David Tucker, Wilson Harvey and Joseph Dorsel, finishing first, second and third respectively. In the female category, Susana Martinez finished first, followed by Katherine Koele and Lilli Robinson. Chaz Tallant was the top racer with a stroller.
