Bennettsville, Dillon bolster infrastructure with MPD tax credits

The cities of Bennettsville and Dillon have allocated funding from MPD Electric Cooperative toward infrastructure projects. Bennettsville will apply the $50,000 in utility tax credits it received from MPD toward a survey of its utility poles. Dillon will put the $100,000 in funding it received toward covering the cost of a pumping station near Dillon Elementary School.

Chesterfield County Council at its May 4 meeting voted unanimously in favor of a temporary data center moratorium in the second reading of the ordinance. Last month, the Council had passed both the first reading and an emergency ordinance establishing a temporary moratorium out to Jan. 1, 2028.

Chesterfield County passes moratorium on data centers

Chesterfield County Council voted to pass an emergency ordinance establishing a temporary moratorium on data centers. At its April 6 meeting, the Council voted 7-0 to pass both a first reading of an ordinance and the emergency ordinance. The moratorium would run about a year and a half, out to Jan. 1, 2028.

UPDATE: QVC files for bankruptcy protection

QVC Group Inc., owner of cable television shopping channels QVC and HSN, will file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, according to a Thursday statement. The company — with its headquarters in West Chester, PA — said it has entered into a restructuring support agreement with holders representing a majority of its outstanding debt. QVC said the plan will reduce debt and strengthen its financial position.

The city of Hartsville has taken on two infrastructure projects that one official says will connect the town in ways it has “not had connection before.” An east-west multiuse path will run down Washington Street from 14th Street to 4th Street, and a north-south multiuse path will follow alongside 4th Street from Coker Avenue to US Highway 15 Bypass, according to Chastity Jenkins, controller for the city of Hartsville.
