Chesterfield Town Council passed a motion Thursday to sell a structure behind La Fogatas Mexican Restaurant to the restaurant's owner, Jose Salinas, for $1,000 plus closing costs.

The brick structure sits behind La Fogatas at 150 Main St. and measures 20 feet by 25 feet, according to Chesterfield Mayor John Bittle.

Though situated directly behind La Fogatas, the outbuilding had been isolated from the 150 Main St. building by Chesterfield Drug Co.'s property. The drugstore had burned down in a fire in November 2017, and Salinas began using the outbuilding shortly afterward.

Salinas said in an interview that the deal is good for him, because now he can repair the structure. He said, "The shed needs repair. The roof leaks. I want to fix it up and make it good for storage.”
