The County said in an August statement that the ambulance is built on a 2026 Chevrolet G4500 chassis upon which an ambulance module had been remounted, which “saves Darlington County government tens of thousands of dollars.”

The ambulance had been refurbished inside and out, including new lighting and striping and repainting, according to the statement, which went on to say that the seating, flooring and countertops are new, and the unit features a Lifepak 35 cardiac monitor and defibrillator that “incorporates some of the most innovative technology developments in recent years for the emergency medical field ...”

Darlington County EMS Director Kenny Bowen said in the statement, “The new ambulance replaced an older unit in the fleet to ensure we continue to serve residents and visitors of Darlington County with quality medical care,” adding, “the majority of the inside of the box is brand new.”

The statement provided no details as to the cost of the ambulance nor the module remount. By time of writing, Darlington County had not responded to requests for comment.

Bowen said in the statement, “Our team responds to approximately 20,000 calls a year, so the refresh will allow the unit to be used for several more years. The new ambulance features all the technology that our other units have, as well.”
